Many people are complaining because photography is a very expensive hobby, if we look at the money invested in the photo equipment, but my opinion is that it has never been cheapen than now. So, let's look at that nowadays what equipment we could buy from the original price of the Canon EOS 300D kit, which was 999USD in 2003. (Currently 999USD is 875 EUR.)

We don't have to start looking for deals in the pro (1D-series) and full frame category, because the cheapest camera costs 1450 EUR (Canon EOS 6D), so let's look at the prices in the APS-C:

    - Canon EOS 7D / 7D Mark II: the last retail price of the 7D was about 1000 EUR, and the 7D Mark II costs 1450 EUR, so both of those bodies are out of our budget of 870 EUR.

    - Canon EOS 70D: This camera has excellent price/value ratio. It has many improvements compared to 60D, its predecessor: WiFi connectivity which can be used to control the camera, or download the phoos remotely, thanks to its DualPixel sensor autofocus is available during LiveView and video, 19 AF points which is the same as the 7D has, and because of 7 FPS continous shooting speed it is an excellent choice for sport-, and nature photography. The price of the camera body is 800EUR, that means we have 75 EUR to spend on lenses. The only AF lens for Canon for that price is Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8.

    - Canon EOS 80D: this is the successor of the 70D with a few improvements: new 24,2 MP sensor, 45 AF points, DIGIC6 image processor and NFC connectivity. The price of the camera starts from 1300 EUR, which is much more than the original price of the Canon EOS 300D kit.

    - Canon EOS 700D (EOS Rebel T5i / EOS Kiss X7i): Entry-level camera, which has a few improvements comparing to its predecessor 650D. The camera starts from 450 EUR, that means we could spend 425 EUR on lenses. There are many lenses wecould choose from, here are some recommendations:
        - 700D (450€) + 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (125€) + 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS STM (220€): 795 EUR
        - 700D (450€) + 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS STM (350€): 800 EUR
        - 700D (450€) + Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC (230€) + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (130€): 810 EUR

    - Canon EOS 750D (EOS Rebel T6i / Kiss X8i): This is an entry-level, affordable DSLR camera which is the newest (with 760D) in its category. There are many improvements compared to 700D: 24 MP sensor, DIGIC6 processor, 19 points AF, WiFi, NFC. Currently is costs 600 EUR, so we would have 275 EUR on buying lenses. Here are some possible body-lens combination:
        - 750D (600€) + Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC (230€): 830 EUR
        - 750D (600€) + Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (125€) + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (130€): 855 EUR

    - Canon EOS 760D (EOS Rebel T6s / EOS 8000D): Also an entry-level camera body, which is quite similar to its smaller brother, the EOS 750D. The differences are on the handling of the camera: the 760D has an extra LCD display on the top plate, and a Quick Dial button on the rear and it has Servo AF in live view. The price of the body is 725EUR, so we have 150 EUR left for lenses. For that price I would buy the kitlens (Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM) which costs 125 EUR.

    - Canon EOS 100D (Rebel SL1): Canon's smallest DSLR camera, which is an excellent camera in compact size. The price of the body is 350 EUR, so that means we have 525 EUR for lenses. I would recommend this camera for traveling, so let's look at some 100D+travel lens combinations:
        - 100D (350€) + Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (330€) + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (130€): 810 EUR
        - 100D (350€) + Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM (250€) + Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC (230€): 830 EUR

    - Canon EOS 1200D (EOS Rebel T5 / EOS Kiss X70): A very basic, entry level DSLR camera, which is the cheapest Canon DSLR camera. The price is only 300 EUR, so 575 EUR left from the budget of 875 EUR. Here are some camera body + lens combination:
        - 1200D (300€) + Tamron 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (550€): 850 EUR
        - 1200D (300€) + Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM (250€) + Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC (230€): 780 EUR
        - 1200D (300€) + Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (125€) + Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 SP Di VC USD (350€): 775 EUR

    - Canon EOS 1300D (EOS Rebel T6): The successor of the budget-friendly, entry level 1200D, with some improvements: better LCD, can shoot more JPEGs in continous chooting mode, WiFi and NFC connectivity. The price as new is 360 EUR, so we could spend 515 EUR on lenses:
        - 1300D (360€) + Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM (250€) + Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC (230€): 840 EUR
        - 1300D (360€) + Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (125€) + Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 SP Di VC USD (350€): 835 EUR
        - 1300D (360€) + Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (330€) + Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (130€): 820 EUR

As you can see from those examples, there are much better and cheaper cameras and lenses are available than ever, and the entry to the digital photography has never been cheaper than now.
